Woodward Dream Cruise – 2008
Posted in Woodward Dream CruiseI have been taking Woodward for pass weeks because of construction in I-75. Monday on my way home I saw lots of muscle cars, street rods and all. Streets full of people watching cars passing by. I wasn’t in a hurry to go home so I was just cruising and enjoying all the old cars on the road. It was kind of neat. Yesterday there wasn’t cars cruising around because it was raining. Tomorrow or I would say later tonight (Thursday) road/streets will be full of people and muscle cars. I better going to work early so I’ll beat the traffic.
Anyway, Woodward Dream Cruise will be this Saturday there will be more than 40000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles cruise down Woodward Avenue.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Woodward Dream Cruise is a classic car event held annually on the third Saturday of August. The WDC Event spans much of Woodward Avenue from Pontiac through Ferndale in Oakland County, Michigan, all the way to the State Fair Grounds inside the Detroit city limits, just south of 8 Mile Road. The portions of Woodward Avenue within the city of Detroit are not directly involved in the Woodward Dream Cruise Event but Detroit will host the 2008 Official Woodward Dream Cruise charity event.
The event, which attracts nearly two million people and approximately 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles each year, is a tribute to the classic cruisers, and to the custom of cruising up and down Woodward Avenue, the first highway in the United States[1]. These are the cars that were available and prevalent from the 1950s, until the and early 1970s (prior to the OPEC oil embargo, which led to the Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations of 1975 and the proliferation of more fuel-efficient, smaller, and less powerful automobiles). The Woodward Dream Cruise also welcomes cruisers of all models whose owners have either scrupulously maintained or “souped-up” and customized the car or created a unique vehicle or statement.
Woodward Dream Cruise enthusiasts have fun and be safe!
